Happy New Years!

Happy New Year!

Wow, where did 2010 go? This past year flew by, more so than the past years in my opinion! 2010 was a year that I am not sure I can really put into the proper words…. It was full of ups and downs and left us with so many obstacles to overcome. We lost people we love and formed new relationships with others. We have wonderful memories to always cherish and some we would like to forget. We battled major medical issues and were able to be fully treated for others. We faced many eye openers that left us more grateful for the simple and small things in life….

Earlier in the year, I was denied short term disability after a work related injury and Kevin managed to talk me into quitting my job. Which, in the end was the best decision ever made. In February we lost an amazing man on the Hinds/Bost side of the family. My stepmom’s Dad passed away towards the end of the month. Yes, Kevin was able to be placed on emergency leave and we attended the funeral. We hated the reason for being in Georgia, but as always it was nice to see everyone.
In August I had to undergo a laparoscopy in order to have my ovaries removed. My battle with ovarian cysts and endometriosis once again had reached a level of severity that left me in a rough condition. William Beaumont Army Medical Center did not properly cauterize the sites where my ovaries were removed, sent me home four hours following the surgery full of internal bleeding and unable to urinate, four days later leaving me in full kidney failure. In the ER and once admitted, the doctors informed me that I should not have lived. What can I say; I have plans with life and am not ready to leave. I have three kids and a husband that I plan on sticking around for! I had to undergo a second (emergency) surgery at Providence to correct the one that almost cost me my life. It took awhile before I was cleared and out of the life or death danger zone. Every day I thank God for giving me another chance at life and have learned to let go of a lot, as well as cherish everything! Life is such a precious thing that is often taken for granted. I came so close to death and plan on living every day to the fullest.

Around the same time, we found out that Kevin has skin cancer. He is still in phase II, and sees the dermatologist on a regular basis. They have cleared up so many spots that were on his face. It is only on his face and neck, and only the skin. It has not spread into his blood, lymph nodes, or elsewhere. They caught it in time!

We have not received any updates on what is going on with Kevin’s discharge from the army. He is being medically retired based on the severity of his PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), and many other multiple combat related issues. His back and neck are injured; both of his arms and hands have nerve damage (he had surgery in 2009 on both arms), his knee has gotten worse, and a few other things, all which are being treated. The deployments really took a toll on him. At this moment, all we know is that he will be on retired status sometime within the next few months. Kevin is under the care of specialists for everything he is going through.

The kids had a pretty good year. We did find out that Breanna will have to undergo a tonsillectomy soon (January 14). She has had multiple tonsillitis infections, respiratory infections, and issues with her asthma since August. She has kept her Honor Roll Status at school. She has to miss over a week of school for the surgery, so we are worried about her grades during this time. However, it is better that she misses one week of schook to recover, verses a week here and there because she is sick. Nicholas has become clearer with his speech over this past year. Wow, the kid can talk now! He goes nonstop and we love every minute of it. He is working hard on counting, his ABC’s, colors, and shapes. Caitlin has come such a long ways with her reading. She has improved in so many ways with her school work.  We are proud of each of them and the changes this past year has brought.

Our New Year was spent at home with the kids and some friends of ours! Very nice way to bring in 2011! Still seems so odd to write that. Time has gone by way too quickly! It is hard to believe that in 2011 we will celebrate Caitlin’s 8th birthday, Nicholas’ 4th birthday, Bre will be 10, and Kevin and I will celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary and 11 years together! Seems so surreal! I am ecstatic to see where we are compared to the past, yet it saddens me to know our kids are growing as they are. I miss them as babies and now they are all becoming so independent.

2011 holds so many changes for the Biddle Family. From our perspective, there are so many wonderful changes coming our way! We cannot wait to begin a new chapter of our lives! Yet, it does seem odd to know that we will be bringing the Army life we have come to know and become comfortable in, to an end. I believe we all have mixed feelings and emotions on this change. However, we are all excited to know that we will no longer have Deployments, NTC, or FTX’s in the future. That, my friends, is more exciting that any of you can possibly know…unless you have lived this insane and unknown life as we have. With the Army, you never know what the future holds. Hell, you don’t even know what the day you are in or the next day holds! Everything changes in a moment’s notice and we live by the Hurry Up and Wait rule. I will tell you, there is a big part of me that will miss this life we have become so accustomed to know and live in… But, as always, it comes to an end and you start the rest of your life. This year will also hold another move for us and new jobs. Where we will move to, we are not releasing to anyone other than close family at this moment. As we have learned over the years, everything is subject to change. Once things are more definite and all decisions have been made, we will post it on here. Remain patient and follow up on here. As always, our lives tend to never be dull, so there will be a lot more updates coming up on here… I promise I will start updating on here more frequently.

As for what 2011 has in store… we pray that everyone has a better year than this past one. We hope you all take life day to day and live each moment as if it were your last. You never know when you will be right. People tend to take life for granted and forget to cherish the small and simple things. It’s not about the money we make or the material things we have. It’s about the way we live our lives and what we put into it, not only for ourselves, but others as well.  Don’t let others keep you down or hold you back. Put a smile on your face, take pictures, and hold onto the memories. Hold the ones you love close. Let go of grudges and regrets. It takes more energy and effort to hold on to those grudges than it does to just let go. Of course, never forget, but forgive and let go. You will find yourself a lot happier… I know I am after letting go of so many things this past year. Enjoy life people! It is just too short not to!

Happy 2011! May this be the best year yet to come for all of us! We love and miss you all!

Yes, we painted Dixie's nails a bright pink!

Best Buddies

Breanna and her friend (our adopted daughter), Destiny, are pretty close to what you could call inseparable! Destiny is one of the sweetest and well behaved kids that we have welcomed into our home. She spent right at a week at her moms and the girls texted constantly and Bre was upset because Destiny was in Colorado. The day after she returned to El Paso the girls began their normal act of being attached at the hip....right down to welcoming the new year in! Lol. We had Destiny's family over to celebrate and welcome 2011! More pictures and details to come. The picture included in this post is from New Years Eve. It is extremely cute and one I just have to share! I'm going to purchase two "best friends" frames and have two copies developed of this picture for Bre and Destiny to keep. They just don't know this yet!

We hope you have all started 2011 off with a bang! May this year leave you full of memories to always cherish! Take a ton of pictures and always remember to keep a smile of those gorgeous faces!

*I love this photo! Perfect of these two!*

2010 Comes to an End... With Snow!

We are bringing 2010 to an end in such an amazing and pretty way for our desert city that we live in! It has snowed in El Paso! It snowed for over 24 hours, however, it did not leave much to be seen. It rarely sticks out here. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful site, especially seeing the snow covered mountains. In some weird way, it can be prettier here than on the east coast. Maybe it is because El Paso doesn’t look so….. dull. The reason I state this, well, El Paso is full desert! Kevin, the kids, and I are all use to greenery…. Grass and trees. Anyhow, the snow left the city looking pretty and white for almost one whole day! Haha, go ahead, I know some of you find this more than funny that we get excited over a tiny amount of snow. You would think I would not find this as exciting after spending a couple years in Germany and the blizzards we had on a regular basis. But, I do. I am even more excited when the temps start to warm up!

Seeing snow in some way makes it feel as though 2011 will be a better year. It feels almost as though it is a fresh start and a step away from this past year. This next year will be full of many changes, all for the better, I hope. We are all very excited about what the future has in store and cannot wait to share as it all falls into place!

Early in the day before the snow, real hazy looking

Very hazy view of from our front door

And the snow begins....

The day after the snow. I love the way the mountains look!

Mountains in the distant. This is across from our neighborhood.

I love this picture of the mountains!

We hope everyone had a terrific 2010 and hope 2011 is the best year yet to come!

Merry Christmas From Our House to Yours

Christmas 2010

Merry Christmas to all of our family and friends! It is so hard to believe we have just celebrated Christmas for 2010! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, celebrating it with family, friends, and the ones you hold close to you. Even though we spent another year so far from our family, we still managed to have a wonderful time with each other. For the first time since Kevin enlisted, he took leave for the Holidays, spending a little over two weeks at home with us. It was a nice break for each of us, especially the kids. Maybe one year soon we will be able to spend Christmas with our family! The next few months hold a lot for us and where we end up! (Sorry, we do not have any more details right now than we did a couple weeks ago. As soon as we do, we promise to let you all know.)

The kids had a terrific Christmas and ended up with all kinds of goodies! Of course they received a good bit of clothing, real cute shirts and dresses (dresses for the girls of course!), CD’s, a ton of DVD’s, books, dolls, dinosaurs, and art’s & craft supplies, and so much more! The present that the kids have played with nonstop during the day are their scooters and bike!

The kids received all kinds of art supplies, games, movies, dolls, dinosaurs (play toys and stuffed ~ Nic sleeps with the stuffed ones every night!), bath and body sets, and so much more, from Santa. He left them a good bit!

Thank you PawPaw, MawMaw & Ashton for mine and Kev’s gift! We appreciate it more than you know! Of course, now I have to pick on y’all though… the kids can’t wait for their box to arrive! Haha. You guys always make Christmas extra special for them…. The kids look so forward to receiving their gifts a little after Christmas… It is an extra special bonus away from Christmas day! Thank you! No matter what you send, they always adore it. We miss you all more than words can ever say!

The girls each received a scooter and Nicholas received his first bike! Grannie and Grandpa made a big hit with these gifts!  **Oh, and Grandpa, thanks for the train whistle that he has played with nonstop! Haha. He loves it, especially when he is playing with his train set. The one that use to belong to Breanna** The kids LOVE their new clothes. I am so thankful that Kevin and I ended up with kids that get excited over new clothes! I just think that is awesome. Grannie did an awesome job at picking out some of the cutest earrings for the girls! They have worn earrings everyday!  Thank you for mine and Kevin’s gifts as well. It is all very much appreciated and loved! As always, you guys spoiled each of us! We just wish y’all could have been here. Terri, you have the best taste in jewelry! The girls and I always know that whatever you send it going to be beautiful! Kevin loves his change thing! He has done a wonderful job in putting change in it and the kids are always searching the house and cars for change! Haha. The girls and Kevin have decided that the once the jar is full the money will go towards something for the family. They have decided they all want the Nintendo WII! It puts such a big smile on my face to see the excitement of those three! Thank you! Who would have thought the change jar would have been such a hit! To those of you who are not aware of what I am speaking of, this jar keeps count of how much change is in the jar.

The kids all want to say Thank You to Great Grandma Kathy & Great Grandpa Steve. They love the movies and toys! Great pick for all of them. The girls were very excited to see the Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana movies. They instantly placed their dolls with their collection of favorites! Nicholas has carried around his Diego set from his room to the living room, just playing!  He loves the car! Thank you so much for their gifts!

(Great) Grandmama and Aunt Jeanette, thank you so much! You made Nicholas’ day with cars! That kid is a car fanatic! The girls love their gifts as well. Caitlin loves her Barbie! Bre was so excited for the art supplies and the case! She has placed all of her art supplies in the case and thinks it is the best thing ever! The jewelry was a great pick for them! Kevin and I can’t wait to use our new waffle maker! We love kitchen items! The utensil set is awesome! We love the wooden set and love using them when we cook! Thank you so much for everything! All of the gifts are perfect for us!

Thank you to everyone for the Christmas cards, phone calls, emails, text messages, and anything else I may have forgotten to mention! We miss you all and cannot wait for the next time we are able to see each of you! We love each and every one of you! Never forget that! No matter the distance, we think of all of our family and friends every day!

Also, an Extra Merry Christmas to our sweet and precious baby nephew/cousin, Gavin! This is his first Christmas. We hope Gavin had a wonderful day… even though he is still too young to even care or notice the holidays yet! We can’t wait until the day we finally get to meet you little man! Merry 1st Christmas sweet baby boy! We all love you so much!
Merry Christmas to each and every one of you! We hope the holidays left smiles on your faces and memories for a lifetime! As we come to a close on this holiday season, let us not forget the meaning behind it. It is not about the gifts that we each received, but about the reason we celebrate it. Happy Birthday to our Lord and Savior, Jesus. Hold the ones you love close and always let them know you love them.

With love from all of us,
Kevin, Brittney, Breanna, Caitlin, & Nicholas

Christmas Eve at The Biddle's

Christmas Eve was a quiet evening at our house. A friend of ours, Marty, came over for a bit. Him and Kevin spend time playing video games on the PS3... No surprise there! Everyone had a real calm evening. Later that night we let the kids open one gift. Seems the tradition has become pajama's on Christmas Eve. Each kid loved their new pajama's! They slept in them that night and welcomed Christmas morning still in them. Very cute!

Merry Christmas from all of us to all of you... Wish we could be closer in order to spend the holidays with family and friends! We love and miss you all!
